{"id":409,"date":"2017-07-20T21:07:40","date_gmt":"2017-07-20T21:07:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/augustlakes.com\/?p=409"},"modified":"2021-06-08T20:08:10","modified_gmt":"2021-06-08T20:08:10","slug":"a-brief-history-of-wakeboarding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/augustlakes.com\/?p=409","title":{"rendered":"A Brief History of Wakeboarding"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Since the beginning of time people have been searching for better and more exciting ways to ride the water.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp; <\/span>As early as the 1700\u2019s natives in Hawaii were the first to be reported surfing!<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp; <\/span>Once the first motor was invented, it just seemed natural for thrill seekers to ride the waves made by the speeding boats, or the \u201cwakes\u201d.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In the mid to late 1970\u2019s, two guys by the names of Allan Byrne and Kevin Jarrett invent Skurfing, a combination of surfboarding and water skiing.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp; <\/span>In 1980, George Darby and Roger Firehock mass produce and sell skurf-boards around Australia.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp; <\/span>In 1985, Tony Finn starts shipping the Skurfer across the world, bringing much attention to the new sport.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In 1991, Herb O\u2019Brien of HO Sports introduces the first Hyperlite board, which revolutionizes wake boarding.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp; <\/span>Wake boarders can now easily start in deeper waters.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In 1993, wake boarding officially becomes a sport, and the World Skiboarding Association changes its name to the World Wakeboarding Association.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp; <\/span>In 1997, wake boarding is introduced in the X-Games.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Since then, wake boarding and its athletes have developed tons of tricks and divisions of competition.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp; <\/span>Whether on the beach or lake, for competition or recreation, wake boarding is a fun and exciting sport for everyone!<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In phase one &nbsp;August Lakes has two water sports lakes and approximately 33 lakefront lots. Phase Two will consist of a single lake and approximately 22 lakefront lots.These lakes are perfect for surfing and wakeboarding!
